After revealing the ‘Car Zero’ of the Blower Continuation Series last week, Bentley has now presented the pre-production version of the Mulliner Bacalar, which will be used for durability testing and for validation.

Subsequent to evaluating the car’s aerodynamics, noise, vibration, handling and top speed, the prototype of the coach-built model, which is also referred to as ‘Car Zero’, is already accumulating miles in Europe.

In the next leg of the journey, which will conclude with the assembly of the 12 pre-sold customer cars next year, it will be subjected to extreme weather testing in temperatures of up to 80C (176F), while also having its electrical system validated.

At the end of the 20-week validation program, Bentley will have tested all components, including the new 750 parts exclusive to the Bacalar, 40 of which were made of carbon fiber, with almost 100 produced using “rapid additive manufacturing techniques”.

“Very much like Blower Car Zero that we unveiled last week, Bacalar Car Zero is the crucial prototype that we’re using to sign-off the design, engineering and craftsmanship of this ground-breaking part of Bentley Mulliner’s future”, the Mulliner Director, Paul Williams, explained.

“The Bacalar is a thoroughly modern iteration of the coach-built Bentleys of the past – extremely rare, entirely hand-crafted, totally bespoke to each customer and exquisite in its details. The whole team behind the car is thrilled to see the prototype shrugging off every test we throw at it, and we’re really looking forward to starting the build of the 12 customer cars.”

Inspired by the 2019 EXP 100 GT Concept, created by Mulliner and named after the Laguna Bacalar in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, the eponymous car was presented back in March.

It packs a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine, rated at 650 HP (659 PS / 485 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. The unit is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system that splits thrust between the front and rear axles – although for optimum efficiency and performance, the car uses the rear-wheel drive as much as possible. Top speed stands at 200+ mph (322 km/h).

德國福斯汽車(Volkswagen),近來有 ID.3 純電動車在歐洲熱賣,而電動休旅 ID.4 明年在美國開賣,銷售也被看好。不過 VW 仍沒忘記現行販售車款,像是主力休旅 Tiguan,近期最新作品就是插電式油電動力的 Tiguan eHybrid,擁有 241 匹馬力,及純電續航力 50 公里的本事。

Tiguan eHybrid 插電式油電車正式在德國開賣,不過入手價已來到 150 萬元台幣。

Tiguan eHybrid 外型看起來,就像一款燃油版本的 Tiguan,直到你從駕駛左側、位於 A 柱附近插電孔,以及右後方的 eHybrid 銘牌,才能分辨出它是一款插電式油電車。VW 並未透露 Tiguan eHybrid 的電池容量,但已公布在純電的續航力可達 50 公里。

可在純電模式下行駛,前提是電池為充飽狀態,並且溫度要高於零下 10 度。充電部分可使用 AC 充電,能連接 2.3kW 家用插座,或是使用最大功率 3.6kW 的充電站。

採插電式油電車設計,充電孔位在 A 柱前方。

車尾的 eHybrid,用來辨識與其他 Tiguan 不同之處。

動力方面則採與 Golf GTE 相同的 1.4TSI 引擎,搭配電動馬達,綜效馬力約可來到 241 匹最大馬力及 400Nm 扭矩。

目前將會提供 Life、Elegance 和 R-Line 三個車型,車上配備有數位儀表板、LED 頭燈、三區恆溫空調、ACC、自動緊急煞停輔助、17 吋輪圈都是標準配備。

但 Tiguan eHybrid 不便宜,售價從 4 萬 2413.11 歐元起(約 148.5 萬元台幣),外媒《Autoevolution》價格雖然不低,但卻擁有滿滿的高級配備,目前已開放訂購。

With research indicating that nearly 9 out of 10 people in Britain see driving as a way to improve their mental wellbeing, SEAT has decided to test out an in-car mental health ‘SOS’ assistance feature.

The Spanish carmaker teamed up with suicide prevention charity CALM, (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and came up with a QR code that can be applied to the vanity mirror of new vehicles. The code then takes users to a specially-designed page on CALM’s website.

According to SEAT, 59% of UK adults have sought to improve their mental wellbeing by temporarily leaving their house, with nearly 90% of people saying that going for a drive is a good way to stay positive.

“With our longstanding mental health partner, CALM, we wanted to play a small part in helping people to quickly access support when they need it. The new ’SOS’ feature should make it that little bit easier to have someone to talk to, especially because so many people see the car as a place of refuge. It is definitely a case of ‘being silent isn’t being strong’, so we encourage people to speak to their friends and family or seek professional advice,” said SEAT UK managing director, Richard Harrison.

The research also found that 60% of respondents felt that being able to drive their cars during the pandemic (within government guidelines) had a positive impact on their mental health. Numbers show that women, more than men, found solace in driving their cars during the pandemic.

It was drivers between the ages of 18 and 24 however that got the most out of being able to drive during these trying times, with 76% of them claiming positive results.

SEAT is hoping to make this service a permanent feature in its vehicles if this initial trial run is a success.
