After it was set loose at the Hockenheim-GP circuiy last month with SportAuto’s Christian Gebhardt at the wheel, the 2021 BMW M5 CS was recently taken to the Lausitzring for another fast lap.

The YouTube channel now put Guido Naumann in the driver’s seat, and he managed to complete the course in 1:31.88, around one and a half seconds faster than the M5 Competition.

According to FastestLaps, the new M5 CS was faster than the Porsche 911 (991) GT3, Audi R8 V10 Performance and Jaguar XE SV Project 8, which posted a 1:32.00, 1:32.11 and 1:32.15 respectively. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S was clocked at 1:32.32 and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition crossed the finish line in 1:32.76 and 1:32.96.

The 2021 M5 CS couldn’t beat the Ferrari 812 Superfast, BMW M8 Competition and Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S, which completed the course in 1:31.67, 1:31.33 and 1:29.95 respectively. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series holds the unofficial record on the German track with a lap time of 1:25.23, followed by the Porsche 911 (991) GT2 RS (1:25.91) and Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (1:28.05).

Powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, the M5 CS allegedly has 635 PS (626 HP / 467 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. The engine drives the M-tuned all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and enables the sports saloon, which is estimated to weigh around 1,900 kg (4,190 lbs), to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in approximately 3.0 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in around 10.0 seconds, and reach a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph).

 


為有效提醒低於最低速限行駛的慢速車,以緩解雪隧塞車問題,交通部高速公路局表示將從今(2020)年12月30日起,於雪山隧道北向路段試辦慢速車示警系統,透過資訊可變標誌顯示慢速車之部分車號,提醒該車輛駕駛人在速限範圍內加速行駛。

高公局表示將規劃於國道5號雪山隧道北向18K+273(彎道段)、19K+672(直線段)及26K+680(入口段)等3處外側車道設置系統,透過上游所增設車牌辨識系統,結合環路線圈車輛偵測器收集車速及車距等交通資料,用以偵測正常車流下之慢速車輛。

當偵測到車輛車速低於65公里/小時(雪山隧道最低速限為70公里/小時),且與前車間距超過120公尺時,則於下游之資訊可變標誌顯示該部車輛車號後4碼,用以提醒該駕駛人適當加速行駛,勿影響後方車輛通行。另高速公路局將持續蒐集分析本系統所偵測之慢速車牌資料,俾利日後進行資料比對應用。

高公局提醒,該慢速車示警系統不會作為執法取締依據,只有在國道不壅塞且車速低於最低速限行駛之車輛,才違反「高速公路及快速公路交通管制規則」第5條,若遭國道公路警察局取締,將依「道路交通管理處罰條例」第33條第1項第1款,處以新臺幣3,000~6,000元罰鍰。籲請民眾行駛國道時,務必依速限規定行駛,在安全不超速原則下儘量提高車速,且在正常車流下,亦不要低於最低速限行駛。

A couple of months ago, Brooks from the DragTimes YouTube channel headed to the drag strip and pitted his McLaren 720S and Ferrari F8 Tributo against each other to see which is the quickest down the quarter-mile.

Much to the surprise of Brooks, it was the Ferrari that proved to be the fastest that day, beating out its British rival in two of the three races held. Eager to see if the F8 Tributo is indeed quicker than the 720S, he recently returned to the drag strip, this time with both cars on Toyo R888R tires and with a better driver in the McLaren.

In the first of three races, Brooks got the slightly better launch while behind the wheel of the Ferrari but as the speeds started to build, the 720S breezed past the Ferrari and managed to set a blistering quarter-mile time of 9.947 seconds at 144.97 mph compared to the 10.318 seconds at 140.37 mph recorded by the Ferrari.

In the second race, the 720S and F8 Tributo got off the line neck-and-neck, yet once again it was the McLaren that proved to be too much for the Italian. For the third and final race, the drivers swapped cars and even though the Ferrari driver jumped the start and was red-lighted, the McLaren again claimed the victory, albeit by the smallest of margins.

Interestingly, Brooks reveals towards the end of the video that after these races were recorded, he discovered a more efficient way to launch the Ferrari and is confident it too can dip in the 9-second range.
