有高價的豪華車,就有便宜的代步車。台灣目前的新車,在 50 萬元以下的車款,已經寥寥可數,不過美國最便宜的新車,居然只要 40 萬元台幣有找!

這是來自 Chevrolet 的 Spark 五門掀背車,是目前美國最便宜的新車,最入門的 LS 車型起價只要 13,400 美元(約 38.5 萬元台幣),雖然便宜,不過車內卻仍有 10 具安全氣囊,7 吋中控觸碰螢幕具倒車顯影,附 Android Auto 和 Apple CarPlay,後座放倒後,可達 770 公升的空間。

入門車型就有 10 氣囊及 7 吋中控觸碰螢幕,圖片為搭配 CVT 變速箱車型。

另外輪圈則為 15 吋鋼圈,輪胎為 185/55R15、4 支揚聲器,以及鹵素頭燈,都不是太意外的入門等級配備。

動力方面,採用 1.4 升 DOHC 四缸引擎,最大馬力為 98hp/6200rpm,最大扭矩 127Nm/4400rpm,搭配五速手排變速箱,以一輛 40 萬元有找的新車而言,作為代步也已相當足夠。

事實上,Spark 即使是更上一級,15,300 美元(約 44 萬元台幣)的 1LT,或是 16,800 美元(約 48 萬元台幣)2LT 車型,車價換算後都還不到 50 萬元台幣,但增加了 CVT 變速箱、Keyless、加熱座椅等配備,真的是相當吸引人的價格及配置。

Renault CEO Luca de Meo is set to unveil a “Renaulution” plan on January 14th and it sounds like the automaker will be announcing a series of cuts.

Details are limited, but Automobilwoche is reporting the Renaulution plan is primarily focused on cutting costs. This will be achieved through a variety of measures including a reduced product lineup.

There’s no word on which models will be cut, but the publication says “de Meo wants to reduce Renault’s broad range of products and services by around 30 percent.” Slow sellers will undoubtedly be the first to go and that means the Talisman could be among the victims as sales have fallen by more than 50%, and totaled just 16,405 units in Europe last year.  Previous reports have also suggested the Espace and Scenic could be living on borrowed time.

Besides eliminating models, the plan reportedly calls for avoiding “technology fields that are not immediately usable.” The company is also slated to adopt a more realistic global strategy as de Meo reportedly admits their current “geographic expansion has not produced the expected results.” As part of this, Renault’s Chinese efforts could become more reliant on local partners.

Speaking of partners, Renault is committed to their alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi. de Meo contends breaking up the alliance would send all three to the “second league of car manufacturers” and noted a handful of “magical projects” are in the works.

It remains unclear what those projects are, but electrification is expected to play a big role in Renault’s future. This was previewed by the Megane eVision concept and Alpine officials have hinted at high-performance electric vehicles which could ride on the same platform that underpins the Nissan Ariya.

Kia introduced the facelifted Rio earlier this year and now the company has unveiled the US-spec model.

Looking virtually identical to the European variant, the 2021 Rio features a sportier front fascia with a revised grille.  The model also adopts a new central intake with a mesh-like pattern.

The changes extend to the cabin as there’s a larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Unfortunately, the upgrades come at a cost as the 2021 Rio starts at $16,050 which is an increase of $200. However, that’s still pretty cheap and the entry-level Rio LX comes equipped with air conditioning, power windows / locks and a four-speaker audio system. Other notable highlights include a 3.5-inch instrument cluster display and 15-inch steel wheels.

The range-topping Rio S begins at $16,690 and it’s a worthwhile upgrade as it adds cruise control, keyless entry and a car alarm. Buyers will also find a split-folding rear seat, a rear USB charger and a front center armrest.

More importantly, the Rio S can be equipped with a new technology package which costs $1,800. It adds 15-inch alloy wheels, a push-button ignition and an automatic climate control system. The package also includes LED headlights, Sirius satellite radio and a larger 4.2-inch instrument cluster display.

Last but not least, the package adds an assortment of driver assistance systems such as Forward Collision Avoidance with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Following Assist and Lane Departure Warning. That’s on top of High Beam Assist and Rear Occupant Alert.

The Rio 5-Door has also been updated for 2021 and it features the same upgrades as the sedan.  However, it’s only available in S trim which starts at $16,990.

Regardless of the trim, all Rios are powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 120 hp (89 kW / 122 PS) and 112 lb-ft (152 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a continuously variable transmission, which enables the car to return an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 33 mpg city, 41 mpg highway and 36 mpg combined.
