Dodge opened the order books to the Durango SRT Hellcat last November and stated that it would only be available for one model year.

It is now being reported that production of the powerful SUV will end in June, with Dodge expecting to build around 2,000 examples.

Speaking with dealers, Mopar Insiders was recently informed that Dodge is preparing to ramp-up production of the vehicle at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. The manufacturer is prioritizing the builds of vehicles that have already been sold before wrapping up production in June.

The obvious highlight of the Durango SRT Hellcat is the fact that it uses FCA’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that in this guise delivers 710 hp and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque. Coupled to this engine is an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Dodge claims the SUV requires just 3.5 seconds to hit 60 mph (96 km/h). The flagship Durango will continue through to a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h) and can run the quarter-mile in less than 12 seconds, and it can also tow up to 8,700 lbs (3,946 kg).

To ensure it can handle all that power, the Durango SRT Hellcat features a sport-tuned suspension, adaptive dampers and a Brembo braking system with six-piston calipers and 15.8 inch (401 mm) discs up front and four-piston calipers and 13.8 inch (351 mm) discs at the back.


Screen size is the latest battleground for automakers and Tesla kicked off that trend with the massive 17-inch infotainment system that resides in the Model S and Model X.

Those screens are now at the center of a recall request by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In a letter to Tesla, the NHTSA said their Office of Defects Investigation is looking into a “potential safety-related defect concerning incidents of media control unit failures resulting in loss of rearview camera and other safety-related vehicle functions” in 2012-2018 Model S and 2016-2018 Model X vehicles.

These models are equipped with an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and an integrated 8GB eMMC NAND flash memory device. The problem is with the memory as the NHTSA said part of the memory’s capacity is used each time the vehicle is started and the “eMMC NAND cell hardware fails when the storage capacity is reached.”

When this occurs, the infotainment system fails and takes out systems required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. In particular, the NHTSA says it results in the loss of the rearview camera as well as the potential loss of the climate control system which is used for defogging and defrosting windows. The government went on to note an “adverse impact on the Autopilot advanced driver assistance system (“ADAS”), as well as turn signal functionality due to the possible loss of audible chimes, driver sensing, and alerts associated with these vehicle functions.”

Given this, the Office of Defects Investigation has tentatively concluded the issue “constitutes a defect related to motor vehicle safety.” As a result, the government is requesting that Tesla recall the vehicles and fix them.

Approximately 158,000 vehicles are impacted and the government says their investigation suggests the flash memory device could fail after 5-6 years.  The NHTSA believes a “5- or 6- year life expectancy for a component integral to providing the driver with safety functions is insufficient” and noted data from Tesla showed “MCU failure rates between 14.2 – 17.3% for the range of MY 2012-2015 Model S” vehicles.

While the letter acknowledges Tesla has released over-the-air updates to mitigate some of the issues, the government deemed them “procedurally and substantively insufficient.”  Instead, they noted vehicle manufacturers are required to conduct recalls for safety-related defects.

The request isn’t binding but, if Tesla refuses, they’ll have to provide a full explanation for not issuing a recalling. Should the government not be satisfied with their response, things could escalate.

Tesla has until January 27th to respond to the letter and it remains unclear if they will follow through with the request.

HR-V在日本稱為「Vezel」,大改款車型預計2021年3月問世,因日本在地CUV競爭非常激烈,火爆程度更勝CR-V、RAV4、X-Trail等都會型SUV,加上Honda於2020年日本在地銷售成績不盡理想,僅靠微型車N-Box支撐市場,占比高達32%一枝獨秀,但是一般乘用車型則是呈現疲態,所以原廠目前馬不停蹄加速全新Vezel上市腳步,希望藉由此車重振本田的銷售氣勢。

因現行款Vezel乃是2013年12月的作品,所以全新Vezel以「七年之養」來形容並不過份!但現行款Vezel一上市就經歷「三年之爽」,2014~2016連續三年拿下日本年度CUV銷售冠軍真的很爽,雖然2017年被Toyota C-HR超越,不過實用性略顯不足的C-HR未能持續戰果,2019年Vezel 再次奪回龍頭寶座,展現「長青樹」的過人實力,消費者最欣賞Vezel (HR-V)之處,莫過於好開、大空間、獨一無二的後座機能設計、實用性一流,令對手望塵莫及,至今此優勢依然沒有被超越。

Vezel四面迎敵  2020年一籌莫展

然而現實是殘酷的,Vezel於2020年的銷售成績「真的累了」!主因不在於動力,因為Vezel在日本當地有不但有1.5 Hybrid還有1.5渦輪增壓引擎,銷售七年的現行款Vezel問題出在外型真的老了,主動安全配備跟不上時代腳步,加上Toyota近年推出RAV4、Rise、Yaris Cross、Harrier(比RAV4更大的SUV),每一款車型都具備十足的殺傷力,大改款Harrier接單狀況超乎預期的「十倍」,首月接單破3萬張,新車等待期預計約一年!因買氣實在旺盛,2020年新車+舊車掛牌數竟然超越2019年都會SUV銷售冠軍RAV4!

至於Rise則是在2020年拿下CUV銷售冠軍,雖然車長不及4米的Rise並非Vezel(車長4330mm)的對手,但車長4180mm的Yaris Cross則是很爭氣,日本2020年8月31日開賣後隨即成為CUV級距銷售龍頭,而且銷售量遠超過Vezel。

Toyota以Yaris Cross對Vezel發動正面攻擊,外加RAV4、Harrier、Rize上下夾攻,此外還有芒刺在背的CH-R,儼然就是360度包夾「圍城」的慘狀,Vezel於2020年當然是一籌莫展,最終銷售量僅能和同樣被視為過氣車型的C-HR相比!

相對於台灣的HR-V只要面對Corolla Cross一位勁敵,日本的Vezel根本就是四面楚歌!

▲身為長青樹的HR-V空間與機能向來沒有疑慮,行路感受更是如同房車一般凌厲,但現行款的內裝缺乏豪華質感是個問題,至於旋鈕排檔座…目前看來並沒有譜!

大改款HR-V動力預測

為何大改款Vezel(HR-V)不早一點問世?好對抗牛頭牌休旅大軍?除了一定要牽拖一下疫情,但更無奈的原因乃是Honda先前一直忙於大改款Civic、小改款Odyssey、全新純電動車Honda e的研發,此外還有小小改款的Civic Type R等車型,原本Vezel預估今年第二季發表,但是為了在沉寂已久的銷售成績注入一只強心劑,因此原廠已經做出提前發表的準備。

為了擺脫宿敵C-HR與最佳新人Yaris Cross的糾纏,大改款Vezel(HR-V)預期將會走大格局路線,軸距將會從現行的2610mm微幅調整至2650mm左右,車身長度也會從現行的4330mm提升至4400mm左右,預期將會和Corolla Cross相當接近。由於現行款HR-V的空間與機能表現沒有什麼好抱怨的,因此台灣消費者最關心的部分可能不是車身尺碼,而是Honda Sensing主動全安系統,因現行款Vezel早已搭載完整的Honda Sensing系統,因此相信未來HR-V也不會缺席。

至於大改款Vezel(HR-V)的另一個重點就是動力系統!目前Vezel具有1.5L自然進氣引擎、1.5L Hybrid(e:HEV)、1.5L直噴渦輪等三種動力,不論價低價高、性能節能通通到位,預期大改款Vezel將會沿用這三款動力,沒有修改的必要。然而台灣方面的HR-V乃是向亞太規格看齊,動力不會比照Vezel辦理,以目前的情況來看,維持現行1.8升自然進氣引擎的可能性極高,出現1.5T的可能性非常低,是想~如果台灣真的有HR-V 1.5T,在拿不到客貨車認證貨物稅優惠的情況下,再加上Honda Sensing的成本,HR-V 1.5T的售價豈不是和CR-V 1.5T一樣嗎?台灣消費者會想買百萬等級的HR-V嗎?

至於HR-V 1.5L Hybrid則是有一絲希望!因泰國政府大力推動Hybrid動力,祭出很有誠意的優惠補助,目前泰規Kicks全面採用e-Power Hybrid動力,全面取消自然進氣引擎,因此未來亞太規格HR-V出現Hybrid動力的可能性極高,台灣方面可能有機會享受到此一福利。但目前離大改款國產HR-V問世的時間還早,預計2022年才有機會,看樣子,現行款國產HR-V還要被Corolla Cross海K一整年以上!日本Vezel銷售告急,台灣方面其實更急!
