A 2013 Aston Martin V12 Zagato has been listed up for auction and in addition to being exceptionally rare, it is also one of the most beautiful cars produced by the British firm in recent years.

Aston Martin teamed up with Zagato to build the car and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic DB4 GT Zagato. It was unveiled at the 2011 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy and just 61 units are said to be have been produced worldwide. This car is one of just four imported to the United States.

Adorning the bodywork is a special-order shade of Fiamma Red that is wrapped in paint protection film. The car also features silver and black 19-inch Zagato wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires measuring 255/35 at the front and 295/30 at the rear, adjustable Multimatic DSSV dampers and has ventilated carbon-ceramic brake discs with black multi-piston calipers.

In creating the car, Zagato crafted a new bodywork from carbon fiber and aluminum and fitted a double-bubble roof, a unique black front grille, bespoke hood, and a revised rear fascia with unique taillights.

The Bring a Trailer listing states that this example was imported to the U.S. in 2014 under the ‘show or display’ exemption and converted to meet EPA standards. It has just over 3,000 miles (~4,800 km) under its belt and is being offered with a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, build and sales documentation, import paperwork, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title. At the time of writing, and with five days left in the auction, the highest bid stood at $500,000.

Tesla 招牌靈魂的 FSD 系統,全稱是 Full Self-Driving,早前執行長馬斯克就曾多次暗示具有 Level 5 完全自動駕駛功能,但近日在美國政府密切關注下,Tesla 承認目前仍屬於 Level 2 自動駕駛輔助系統,尚離 Level 5 水準仍有段距離。

雖然執行長曾多次暗示具有完全自動駕駛水準,但近日向美國政府坦承目前仍屬於 Level 2 級別。

早在 2020 年 7 月世界人工 AI 會展上,馬斯克曾暗示吹捧表示,旗下搭載 FSD 系統汽車相當接近 Level 5 完全自動駕駛水準,將在 1~2 年內完成全自動駕駛。以美國汽車工程會規定下,Level 5 完全自動駕駛代表,在任何條件、任何環境,車輛均能自動行駛,顯然 Tesla 離 Level 5 還有段距離。

特斯拉副總法律顧問 Eric C. Williams 向加州自動汽車管理局表示,詳細說明 Autopilot 和 FSD 兩大功能,大致歸類成 Autopilot 屬於 Level 2 等級水準,功能涵蓋自動轉向與自動定速跟車;透過 FSD 選配套件,可提供更多支援輔助功能,但整體來說,仍屬於 Level 2 級別。

When you’re making an economy car, for example, the demands your creation have to answer to are set. More space, more economy, less cost. The same goes for other mainstream categories. When you’re creating a supercar, though, how do you know where to start? For Horacio Pagani, it starts with a desire for freedom.

The founder of Pagani Automobili took to YouTube recently to explain what ideas have gone into the creation of the upcoming Huayra R.

As with the Zonda R, the main demand that the team imposed upon itself was unshackling its supercar from restrictions. What would it look like if it didn’t have to answer to any restrictions or regulations?

While we’ll have to wait until we know exactly what they came up with, Pagani turned to nature and history for inspiration. Looking back largely at the Le Mans prototypes of the late ’60s and early ’70s, Horacio Pagani singles out the Porsche 917 in particular as an inspiration.

As with all modern supercars, Pagani started designing the Huayra R in the wind tunnel. Horacio says that it just didn’t look right, though.

“The first aerodynamic tests instantly showed good results, though the style didn’t really convince us,” he says in the video. “The car was too technical. We wanted more passion. We started working to combine the technical features with the elegance of shapes and form. Suddenly, something curious happened. As the car became more appealing it also became more aerodynamically efficient.”

Right now, we know very little for sure about the Pagani Huayra R, but the company has given out a few hints. We’ve heard the engine running and, as you can see below, it is a V12. Rumors suggest that it will be naturally aspirated and will have a redline of 9,500 RPM, which would certainly be exciting.

Whatever comes of the car, though, it’s certain to be mightily impressive.
