For a car whose production is capped at 500 units, the Bugatti Chiron has already spawned a number of special editions. The latest such model is called the ‘Les Legendes du Ciel’ (Legends of the Sky/Heaven) and is an homage to famous racing drivers from the last century, most of whom were former flying aces.

Based on the Chiron Sport and capped at 20 units, each one priced at €2.88 million (equal to $3.4 million), excluding tax, the limited edition model boasts exclusive touches inside and out and will enter production towards the end of the year, with deliveries likely set for early 2021.

“Bugatti has had close associations with aviation since the company was established more than 110 years ago. Many successful Bugatti racing drivers, such as Albert Divo, Robert Benoist and Bartolomeo ‘Meo’ Costantini, flew for the French Air Force, the French aviator legend Roland Garros privately drove a Bugatti Type 18 to be as fast on the road as in the air,” said President Stephan Winkelmann. “It is therefore almost an obligation for us today to pay tribute to the legends of that time and dedicate a special edition to them.”

The Alsace hypercar is finished in Gris Serpent, a shade inspired by the exterior color of 1920s aircraft. The body is adorned with a white gloss center stripe, which runs from the bonnet to the rear wing, the blue, white and red colors of the French flag on the front area of the carbon fiber sills and a special logo on the front fenders. The horseshoe grille sports a glossy black finish while the Inconel exhaust trim cover and black exposed carbon fiber dominate the back end.

Greeting users upon opening the doors are the bespoke entry sills. The ‘Les Legendes du Ciel’ logo is projected onto the ground, and once inside, they will see the Gaucho leather, reminiscent of the natural leather found inside aircraft from the early 1900s. The aluminum trim provides a contrast and is joined by an aluminum inlay with the ‘Les Legendes du Ciel’ logo on the headrests and the special edition numbering.

The final highlight of the cockpit is a hand-sketched racing scene between a Bugatti Type 13 and a Nieuport 17 aircraft, built from 1916 and popular due to its maneuverability, speed and reliability. The comfort seats and glass roof are available as options.

The black exposed carbon fiber engine cover rests on top of the quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16, which still pumps out 1,500 PS (1,479 HP / 1,103 kW) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque, rocketing the Chiron Sport up to a top speed that is electronically limited at 420 km/h (261 mph).

Named after the Mayan god of wind, the Huracan has been around since 2014, but to be fair, it has been constantly upgraded ever since.

The changes have not only been cosmetic, but technical too. Thankfully, and in contrast to rivals who have adopted forced induction, Lamborghini kept the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10, which is an absolute marvel and probably the last of its kind.

In the most affordable version, namely the Huracan Evo RWD, it develops 602 HP (610 PS / 449 kW) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque. As its name implies, it drives only the rear wheels, via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It is 30 HP (30 PS / 22 kW) and 30 lb-ft (40 Nm) less powerful than the AWD variant and 73 lbs (33 kg) lighter too; nevertheless, it does the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and maxes out at 202 mph (325 km/h).

The Huracan Evo RWD stays planted through corners, stops instantly with the optional carbon ceramic brakes (although the standard steel ones are not bad either), the steering has some weight to it and it will kick its tail back in shortly after kicking it out.

So, in as few words as possible, the baby Lambo could very well be the only fun car you’ll ever need. It can be used on a daily basis too, and even on long journeys, as the seats are quite comfortable and the dampers do absorb most bumps on the road in the ‘Strada’ driving mode.

However, there are a few letdowns to it, and we’re not talking about the fact that it doesn’t feature all-wheel drive or that the frunk is very tiny. But we’ll let Carfection’s Henry Catchpole, who got behind the wheel of an example equipped with £53,000 (equal to $70,379) worth of options, including the £9,500 ($12,615) paint finish, explain the rest.
