While diesel cars are a dying breed and have lost significant ground to petrol-powered and electrified vehicles, Volkswagen remains committed to them.

One such model is the new generation Golf GTD, which is offered alongside the Golf GTE and Golf GTI as a hot hatch that promises to go easier on the owner’s wallet with less visits to the gas station and a range of up to 965 km (600 miles) on a single tank.

Review: 2021 VW Golf GTI – Time To Find Out If The New Hot Hatch Is Worthy Of The Name

The average fuel consumption is between 5.2 and 5.5 l/100 km (45.2-42.8 mpg US / 54.3-51.4 mpg UK), and the 2.0-liter TDI emits 137-143 g/km of CO2 in the WLTP cycle. The turbodiesel engine pumps out 200 PS (197 HP / 147 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque that are sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission.

The Golf GTD’s performance is average for the hot hatch segment, with the 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) acceleration taking 7.1 seconds officially. Still, to achieve that, you may want to stick to the standard 18-inch wheels wrapped in summer tires, because the 19-inch ones with winter rubber that were fitted to this car have made it significantly slower due to wheelspin – and it was even worse with the Launch Control engaged.

The video depicts some acceleration tests, as well as some first impressions, and while it is not exactly a review, it’s still worth watching, regardless if you’re interested in a sporty Golf with a diesel engine or not.

If you are ordering a new BMW and have money to burn, you can turn to the BMW Individual program to paint your car in a unique shade. Some of the colors available are subtle, but others, like this one, are anything but.

This 2021 M5 Competition was recently delivered to BMW of Vista in California and is painted in Verde Mantis, which is actually a Lamborghini color.

Verde Mantis was introduced with the Huracan and is one of the most striking shades of green that the Italian car manufacturer offers. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a non-Lamborghini car painted in Verde Mantis; there’s also a 2018 Ford GT, as well as a BMW M3 that resides in the Middle East, that sport the same color.

While we think this paintjob works wonders on supercars like the Huracan and Aventador, we’re not so sure it suits the M5. After all, the range-topping 5-Series is all about luxury, sophistication and understated performance and, to us at least, looks best in darker shades. Fortunately, the carbon fiber roof, black wheels, and other carbon fiber trimmings ensure that it isn’t too overbearing.

Paint aside, the facelifted BMW M5 Competition features a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. Coupled to this engine is an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to a rear-biased all-wheel drive system and propelling the super sedan to 62 mph (100 km/h) in as little as 3.3 seconds.
