The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are vastly improved, but one of their most interesting features – aside from an all-new independent rear suspension – is a newly available turbodiesel engine.

The 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six produces 277 hp (207 kW / 281 PS) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of torque, and promises to be an interesting alternative to the familiar 5.3- and 6.2-liter petrol V8s.

We’ll be testing one of the models soon, but Chevrolet has confirmed the diesel-powered Tahoe will have a class-leading fuel economy rating of 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive.  That drops to 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined with four-wheel drive.

In the larger Suburban, the numbers dip to 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive. With four-wheel drive, they remain unchanged from the Tahoe at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined.

Driven: 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Grows Up And Adds A Dash Of Sophistication

The diesel engine will likely appeal to customers who tow and Chevrolet was quick to note the diesel-powered Tahoe has a towing capacity of up to 8,200 lbs (3,719 kg). That number maxes out at 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg) on the Suburban, but both models have an exhaust brake in tow-haul mode for added driver confidence.

While the diesel engine is new for 2021, it’s a return of sorts as Chevrolet hasn’t offered one in their full-size SUVs since 1999. Thankfully, it’s an affordable upgrade as the diesel will only cost an additional $995 on the LS, LT, RST and Premier trims. On the range-topping Tahoe and Suburban High Country, it actually saves buyers $1,500.

Deliveries are slated to begin before the end of the year and we’ll have more to say about the models next week.

Manhart specializes in tuning BMWs but, earlier this year, they introduced the Toyota Supra-based GR 450.  Now the company is following up with an even more extreme GR 550.

Starting under the hood, the 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine has been equipped with an upgraded turbocharger, a carbon fiber air intake and an optimized ECU. There’s also new charge pipes, a high-performance radiator and a sports exhaust system which “leaves a lasting impression with its brute sound.”

Thanks to these modifications, the engine develops 542 hp (405 kW / 550 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. That’s an increase of 207 hp (154 kW / 210 PS) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) over the standard Euro-spec Supra.

Driven: 2020 Toyota GR Supra Is A Track Weapon And An Everyday Sports Car

Manhart didn’t say how fast the model is, but the upgraded 2021 Supra 3.0 – which has 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 368 lb-ft (499 Nm) of torque in the United States – can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. Given the sizable power grains on the GR 550, that number probably drops into the low to mid three second range.

Regardless of how fast it is, the GR 550 looks pretty aggressive as it has been equipped with a golden wrap, sporty graphics and a front spoiler from AC Schnitzer. The model also features aerodynamic side skirts, H&R lowering springs and 20-inch wheels with a satin black finish.

Since customization is the name of the game, owners can opt for different sport exhaust systems and a KW coilover suspension. They can also request brake and interior upgrades.

Not willing to let Ram bask in the glory of the 1500 TRX’s launch for too long, Hennessey Performance has unveiled a potent upgrade package for the 2021 Ford F-150.

The base of the Texas tuner’s latest creation is the F-150 Platinum Edition Super Crew that leaves the Ford factory with a 5.0-liter V8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission complete with four-wheel drive. Dubbed the Venom 800, Hennessey’s F-150 takes things to new heights.

Most notably, the truck’s 5.0-liter V8 has been equipped with a 3.0-liter supercharged that runs on 8 psi of boost and is joined by a high-flow cold air induction system, upgraded fuel injectors, upgraded fuel pump, a stainless steel exhaust, E85 flex-fuel sensor, and chassis dyno engine calibration. All up, the boosted truck delivers 805 hp at 6,200 rpm and 727 lb-ft (985 Nm) of torque at 4,100 rpm when running on E85.

Hennessey says the Venom 800 can sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 3.6 seconds thanks to its added grunt and run down the quarter-mile in 11.9 seconds at 116 mph (186 km/h).

A plethora of other modifications have been made to the pickup truck. For example, there is a new Brembo braking system with 6-piston calipers and 15.1-inch cross-drilled steel rotors at the front. The truck also sits on bespoke 20-inch Hennessey wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires.

Improving the F-150’s off-road credentials has also been a priority for Hennessey. As such, it has fitted upgraded shocks with external reservoirs and a 6-inch lift kit. There’s also some visual changes include a new front bumper upgrade with LED lights, a Hennessey front grille and unique exterior badging.

Prices kick off at $149,500, excluding delivery, and the tuned F-150 is covered by a 3 year / 36,000-mile warranty.
